Its very satisfying to load some black-and-white film into my Hasselblad and do some slow, considered portraits. But I have also come to relish the challenge of the speedy portrait: a designer after her fashion show, an artist at their exhibition launch, a chef visiting a school. My favourite portraits are spare, graphic and calm but there's nothing like a cheeky smirk or a spontaneous giggle to bring a subject to life.
